VacuVin Pineapple Slicer

Back

Pineapple is one of those fruits that despite being available in any supermarket or grocery shop, still remains an exotic wonder fruit! Most people are intimidated by the spikey skin obstructing the juicy good within, but then when you finally get inside, how the heck are you supposed to divide it up? Well, now VacuVin have given us the Pineapple Slicer; the no-fuss tool to help you serve up the world's scariest looking fruit!

Simply cut off the top of your pineapple, select the appropriate Pineapple Slicer blade and press it into the middle of the pineapple, then twist the blade into the fruit just like a corkscrew into a wine bottle. When you've reached the bottom of the pineapple, just pull until the inside of the inside of the fruit is removed, then take off the handle of the slicer and remove your freshly sliced, juicy pineapple!

Now you are free to enjoy it as you please; you might want to gobble it all yourself as the ready-made fruity spiral, or slice it into smaller chunks to share with friends, or use it as a showy garnish on your latest cocktail concoction!
The shell of the pineapple also makes a great bowl for serving up other goodies! Perhaps you could make up a nice fruit salad, or get creative with some other desserts!

Product reviews

begin I was skeptical at first at thinking if anything that came out of Dragons Den was ever going to be useful, but I'm rather surprised by this piece of kit.

You get 3 attachments which are used depending on the size of the pineapple. It's not always clear, when you've got a pineapple, which one would be best suited, but you just go by trial and error and I tend to find a medium size suits most pineapples in a shop.

It starts much like an apple corer. You twist the bottom into the pineapple so that it doesn't slide off, and then like a corkscrew you twist the handle until you think you're far enough down the pineapple. Again, it's not easy to tell, so trial and error really. It takes a fair bit of strength/stamina to keep it all steady, but nothing major. However you do leak a fair amount of juice especially if you accidentally go too far and pierce the bottom, so have a cloth handy!

Once it's far enough, you pull it out (again requiring some strength), and the pineapple is attached in a giant ring-a-round which you can easily take off and chop into slices for pizzas, fruit salads, or anything. And best of all, if you're a cocktail beginner like me you can experiment with using the pineapple shell as a glass for a Sex On The Beach cocktail. :D

All in all I'm very impressed with this. Build quality is fairly good, it worked first time and impresses friends when they ask "what on earth is that thing?" The usual quick service from Drinkstuff...... in fact I think I accidental got given Next Day delivery added for free as it arrived the next day! end
